Campbell has been trying to add catcher to his defensive repertoire

Eric Campbell, the man who is also known by "Soup," has been working hard this spring to add the catching position to his repertoire. Of-course, the 27 year old already has loads of versatility, stretching from the corner outfield positions, and each infield position. Right now, he's is more than likely on the bubble to make the team come April, However, having the ability to play almost every position on the diamond would give him a serious edge once Terry Collins determines his top 25 in a month.

Right now, the catcher's who figure to be in the mix for the 25 man roster are Travis d'Arnaud, Anthony Recker, and possibly Kevin Plawecki. Campbell obviously wouldn't START at catcher, but it's always nice to have a 3rd guy to play the backstop, especially when you are late in the game and would like to use your backup catcher as a pinch hitter.

Campbell hit .263/.322/.358 in 85 games for New York last season. He primarily came off the bench late in games, but when he did start he would often play left field, third base, and first base.

I'll be pulling for Soup to make this team, because I would like to see Terry Collins have more flexibility when handling his bench late-in games.
